The original concept of the company was conceived, organized and implemented by William B. Van Nest and Thomas P. Lowe, Jr. Both Van Nest and Lowe were interested in the real estate industry and believed the financial needs of small homebuilders were not being met by the traditional lending institutions. At the time, approximately 50 percent of the homes in the Twin Cities were constructed by builders who built under fifty homes per year. Builders Development & Finance, Inc. was organized to serve the needs of those builders.
BD&F has always had its business operations located in Wayzata. As the company grew, it was necessary to create branch offices. Our current branch offices are located in Eagan opened in 1985 and in Champlin which opened in 2001. Through the years, BD&F has evolved into a major construction lender for the larger builders in the Twin Cities as well as the small builders. The philosophy of providing prompt, courteous and knowledgeable expertise has been the trademark of the Company.
